In de lijsten met prioritaire en specifieke verontreinigende stoffen voor de Kaderrichtlijn Water zijn 22 metalen opgenomen. Veel daarvan overschrijden de norm in Nederlandse wateren. Voor metalen geeft de KRW echter ruimte om rekening te houden met biobeschikbaarheid of natuurlijke achtergrondconcentraties. Tot nu toe zijn deze twee aspecten op landelijke schaal ingevoerd. Voor achtergrondconcentraties blijken er echter meer regionale patronen te bestaan dan eerder verondersteld. In dit rapport wordt ingegaan op regionale achtergrondconcentraties. Ook met de voorgestelde achtergrondconcentraties zullen nog normoverschrijdingen voorkomen. Handelingsperspectief vraagt maatwerk en daarom wordt geadviseerd de uitwerking van handelingsperspectieven uit te voeren in een Community of Practice.

The list of pollutants for the Water Framework Directive includes 22 metals. Many of these exceed the standards. However, the WFD provides the possibility to take bioavailability or natural background concentrations into account. Until now, these two aspects have been implemented at a national scale. However, there appear to be more regional patterns for background concentrations than previously assumed. This report discusses regional background concentrations. Even with the proposed background concentrations, standard exceedances will still occur. Action perspectives require customisation and it is therefore recommended to carry out the elaboration of action perspectives in a Community of Practice.
