Deze rapportage beschrijft een studie naar de statistiek van seiches in het Rotterdamse havengebied. Seiches zijn lange staande golven in (half-)afgesloten waterdelen, zoals in havens. Ook in Rotterdam treden zij op, vooral in het westelijke deel van de haven, met slingerperiodes in de orde van een uur. Seiches hebben in dat gebied onder andere een invloed op de hydrodynamische belastingen die relevant zijn voor het Beoordelings- en Ontwerpinstrumentarium (BOI) voor de lokale primaire waterkeringen.

This report describes a study on the statistics of seiches in the Rotterdam port area. Seiches are long standing waves in (semi-)enclosed water bodies, such as harbors. They also occur in Rotterdam, especially in the western part of the port, with oscillation periods on the order of an hour. Seiches in that area influence, among other things, the hydrodynamic loads relevant to the Assessment and Design Instrumentation (BOI) for the local primary water defenses.
