This document provides a summary of the rapid assessment study on the Geul river basin. In this study, an international team of researchers assessed the hydrological response of the basin to heavy rainfall during the summer 2021 event, the associated floodings and their consequences in order to find measures that are potentially suitable for the prevention of future floods impacts. We made extensively use of three recently published reports from Klein (2022), Natuurmonumenten en Bureah Stroming (2022) and Deltares (2022) about this flood event in the Geul basin. We extended this knowledge base with an assessment based on a set of computer-based flood simulations, covering the entire transboundary basin of the Geul river. Further, insights and experiences, such as those from experimental basins, from different universities in neighboring countries are included, as well.
